Despite his marriage to cute co-ed Bridget, Deacon recently bedded her sexy mom, Brooke. She became pregnant, of course, and hightailed it out of town to mull over her state of affairs (pun intended). But even though she's hiding in a posh spa just outside of L.A., Deacon tracks down his MIA mistress - and learns that he's actually a Sharp shooter.... Brooke answers a knock at the door and is not thrilled to find Deacon on the other side. "He's the reason Brooke left town in the first place," chuckles Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke). "She wanted to figure out what she was going to do about her pregnancy, but now she's also dealing with her real feelings for Deacon. So, she's not happy when he suddenly shows up. She has a little meltdown." To say the least. Brooke angrily demands that Deacon leave. "Her immediate reaction is to be hostile to him," explains Supervising Producer Rhonda Friedman. "That hostility is really born of her vulnerability. After all, Brooke has been going through all this soul searching while she's been on her little retreat. She's been pouring her heart out to the therapist at the spa and admitting that she does have feelings for this man. And now, he appears, so she throws up this wall of hostility and he doesn't understand where it's coming from." Brooke explains away her rage as coming from the fact that Deacon slept with her when he loved Bridget. "The only reason Brooke gave in and had sex with Deacon was because she really thought her daughter's marriage was about to be over," Lang points out. "But he ended up staying married to Bridget, so Brooke feels betrayed by that. That, in turn, made her betray her own daughter. She feels horrible about it." But Deacon refuses to take a powder. "He's pretty adamant," says Sean Kanan (Deacon). "He's an emotionalist rather than an intellectualist. He's driven by his feelings. He deeply feels for this woman, and he's not going to let her go. At first, Deacon assumed that Brooke's guilt over their affair drove her out of town, but now he suspects there's more to it than that." Brooke is determined that he not find out she's pregnant with his baby. "He won't leave until she tells him what's really going on, so she tries to cover it all up," sighs Lang. Brooke blathers on about her reasons for going into exile - to recover from her disastrous pursuit of Ridge and from betraying Bridget. But when Deacon claims to care for Brooke, she quickly scoffs at his heartfelt declaration. "She feels that she was nothing but a passing moment to Deacon," says Friedman. "One minute, he said he was going to get a divorce, but the next thing she knows, he's back with Bridget. That certainly made Brooke feel like she meant nothing to him. He's shocked to hear that she would feel this way." That's when Deacon suddenly announces that he's in love with Brooke. "She's dumfounded," says Lang. "It's something she didn't expect from him even though she really wanted to hear it." Brooke's response? After some prodding from Deacon, she admits that the feeling is mutual, and they fall into each other's arms. But that warm, fuzzy feeling doesn't last long. "They both realize that they can't be together because it wouldn't be fair to Bridget," Friedman says. "Brooke just can't do that to her daughter. He realizes, as well, that he recommitted himself to Bridget and he's got to live up to that. So, Brooke and Deacon decide that even though they share these deep, deep feelings for each other, they're going to have to put them aside. A relationship for them just can't be. They have to do what's right for Bridget; they're willing to make this huge sacrifice for her sake." Deacon is visibly affected by his quandary. "He's in love with two women," confirms Kanan. "Deacon genuinely loves Bridget, but I think it's a different kind of love. He recognizes in Bridget all the potential she has and what a fantastic, intelligent and beautiful young girl she is. But with Brooke, his feelings are raw and organic." Suddenly, there's a knock at the door. Susan, the spa's concierge, announces herself. Brooke declares her love for Deacon one last time and asks him to slip out through the terrace. Brooke greets Susan, who comes bearing a gift. "She has brought Brooke her prenatal vitamins," Friedman explains. "Susan even says, 'Here are the prenatal vitamins for your baby.' " After Susan leaves, Brooke turns around and is horrified to see Deacon standing there. "Yeah, he heard everything," laughs Kanan. "Brooke tries to dance around it, but he knows what he heard - and he demands to know the truth." Brooke finally confesses that, yes, she's carrying his baby and she is not getting an abortion. Deacon's response? "Let's just say Brooke isn't expecting what's coming next," teases Lang. |
