"It sounds corny," begins Sean Kanan, best known for his role of Mike Barnes in the recently released Karate Kid III, but from the time I saw the first Karate Kid film, I've wanted to be involved with any subsequent film they might do." Involved in the sport of karate himself, Sean possesses the natural discipline necessary for the sport, as well as for an acting career, which he seriously began contemplating back in high school. "I went to prep school in Boston, where I was a political science major," explains Sean, "though I had thought about an acting career back in 11th grade." With the expectation of one day becoming an attorney, Sean didn't think anything would come of his aspirations of an acting career... until he got a bit part on the series Spenser for Hire, which was filming in Boston. "That did it" he explains matter-of-factly, and packing his bags, he headed to California to get an agent and begin to seriously study the craft of acting. Since his arrival in Hollywood, Sean has been working steadily, despite last summer's writer's strike, when all of show business literally came to a halt - but it tested Sean's dedication and made him all the more ambitious. The New Castle, Pennsylvania, native is also quite adept at comedy, having a routine at age 14, when he made the rounds of comedy clubs with a friend. Though doing comedy is not what his career is about, Sean's humor helps him in auditions, where casting directors are sure to remember him! His family, which includes Mom, Dad and younger sister Robin, though not involved in show business, are his biggest supporters. "My folks were really pushing for law school for a while," laughs Sean, "but they couldn't be any more behind me than they are now!" Sean celebrates his birthday on November 2; he has brown hair and green eyes and loves to get fan mail! |
